Daily Goal: Given your own unique situation and based off of what you have read today…determine your own goal. How would downsizing your home assist you in living frugally?
We just bought a house after having rented for about 3 years. Our first house which we owned was a 1500 sq ft. 2 bedroom 2 bathroom townhouse with only about 1000 sq ft of livable space. As you can imagine once baby #4 came along we could no longer live there as there was just not enough space for us all. We then moved into a rental that was 2200 sq ft. and it worked pretty good. We lived there for a couple of years when hubby decided we needed something a little bigger (there were other smaller issues too). Our 3rd try was an almost 3000 sq ft house and while it was nice to have space it was definitely too much space, IMO. Well our landlord decided not to rent any longer and we were forced to move yet again. With limited time and limited options in our price range we finally found another townhouse which we were told was 2000 sq ft (I think it was actually about 1500). It worked well enough but with 6 people we were definitely on top of each other and no one had personal space. We now live in a house of our very own. It is 2000 sq ft. 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and just perfect for us. Everyone has enough space so that we don't feel like we are right on top of each other.
